Decision making will test player convictions during the story, greatly affecting how the game will play out. Triangle Strategy is a Strategy RPG from Square Enix for the Nintendo Switch, released on March 4th, 2022. Square Enix shocks longtime fans of Final Fantasy Tactics with a demo that lays out what Project Triangle Strategy could be when the game releases in 2022. ![]() Elevation, attack range, position, and unit coordination must be taken into consideration to gain the upper hand in skirmishes. The battle system in Project Triangle Strategy is more tactical than Octopath Traveler. Players will take control of a group from the Glenbrook nation and fight to save their kingdom from downfall. Culminating in a conflict called the Saltiron War, a truce has been called but the peace is threatened once again. Taking place on the continent of Norzelia, Project Triangle Strategy features three nations that feud constantly over limited resources. It's the game behind the name that really matters, and Square Enix has shown us this new IP will be both familiar and fresh. However, the same thing was said about Octopath when all we knew of it was a working title and a gorgeous art style. While the two games are, admittedly different, Octopath Traveler's JRPG combat does feature some tactical elements and could tide you over until Square Enix's upcoming. There's no telling what the final name of Project Triangle Strategy will be but it's doubtful that it will end up being Triangle Strategy. Since Project Triangle Strategy is also a Square Enix-developed title, we could see the same happening to it at some point in 2023, unless the publisher announces otherwise. Make choices and build your Conviction in TRIANGLE STRATEGY, a tactical RPG from. ![]() Plus, with players being able to make decisions that influence the narrative directly, subsequent playthroughs could be very different both narratively and gameplay-wise. Project Triangle Strategy is a tactical fantasy RPG, which is the second installment of the HD-2D series (it also includes the 2018 jRPG Octopath Traveler ). Three nations battle for control of the dwindling resources of salt and iron. Emphasis of narrative is the key difference here, as there's a lot more exposition and conflict background laid out beforehand, at least based on the Project Triangle Strategy demo. Triangle Strategy certainly scratches a very similar itch, though in a pretty unique way that is still experienced very differently compared to a Tactics game. The biggest difference is Triangle Strategy's emphasis on a more complex story that players can influence more directly, implementing key moral choices and decisions for players to consider. However, there are plenty of diversions from this core foundation that Triangle Strategy offers, like unique character abilities, team attacks and flanking, along with more diverse and unusual landscapes. Players battle on a variety of terrain, with varying degrees of verticality and advantage, all while considering each unit's individual strengths and weaknesses. Gameplay is where the obvious correlation lies, because Triangle Strategy plays very similarly to Final Fantasy Tactics.
